ChatGPT, Cookies, and Me
Just a quick post about a story not really written by me. But it could have been?
I assume that most of my students are probably using ChatGPT or the like in some way shape or form—and I was chatting about this in my Creative Writing class.
So today, while I was taking a break between writing sessions (where I am now), I thought I should start playing with it to better understand its capabilities. I know that I am behind on this, but there we go.
I played with various prompts. It is actually a lot like a more responsive Wikipedia in some ways.
Anyway, after asking about Iranian cuisine and Shakepearean sonnets, I asked ChatGPT to “write a story about cookies in the style of Ryka Aoki.”
aaaannnddddd, almost immediately:
In a small bakery nestled between bustling streets and towering buildings, there lived a baker named Mei. Mei was no ordinary baker; she possessed a magic touch that transformed her cookies into whispers of joy and comfort. Each day, she toiled in her kitchen, mixing flour, sugar, and a pinch of stardust to create cookies that held the power to mend broken hearts and uplift weary souls.
One rainy afternoon, a young girl named Lily stumbled upon Mei's bakery while seeking shelter from the storm. Lily's heart was heavy with worries, her spirit weighed down by the troubles of the world. As she stepped into the warmth of the bakery, the scent of freshly baked cookies enveloped her, filling her with a sense of calm she had long forgotten.
Mei greeted Lily with a warm smile and offered her a seat by the window. She placed a plate of cookies in front of her and poured a cup of steaming tea. As Lily took a bite of the cookie, she felt a wave of warmth wash over her, as if all her worries were melting away. With each bite, the layers of sorrow and doubt crumbled, replaced by a newfound sense of hope and resilience.
As they sat together, Mei shared stories of the magic behind her cookies – how each ingredient was carefully chosen for its ability to heal and comfort. She spoke of the countless lives that had been touched by her creations, of the smiles they had brought to faces young and old.
Inspired by Mei's words, Lily felt a spark of determination ignite within her. She realized that even in the darkest of times, there was always a glimmer of light, a moment of sweetness to be found. With renewed courage, she stepped back out into the rain, her heart full of gratitude and her spirit lifted by the magic of Mei's cookies.
From that day on, Mei's bakery became a beacon of hope for all who sought solace in times of trouble. And though the world may be filled with storms and shadows, there would always be a place where cookies held the power to heal, one bite at a time.
*giggle* okay… That was fun! Time to get back to writing myself!
Much love,
Ryka
